This exhibition communicates the feelings and flashbacks of my childhood trauma.

I have constructed a series of images that blend both the macabre and the beautiful experiences I had growing up.

Integrating the paradoxes of childhood sexual trauma is extremely difficult for survivors, as no person is truly in hell for their entire existence. There may be pretty things in view, such as flowers, while assault is occurring. The paradox is sometimes also the lifesaver. Prisoners of war have remembered beautiful blue skies or pink sunsets as something that kept them alive, for example.

One method of facilitating the complex integration process is through art making. Art therapy gave me the tools to use visual language to express the experiences and emotions that are verbally inexplicable or taboo.
